Drum Beat Maker Game! The Nike sportswear company is moving while using times, so grab your Nike sneakers and prepare to run, as this run-tracking software is going to be sure to enable you to get moving off of the pavement. Read on for a look at the features and downsides that may help you decide if you should make the purchase.
After I downloaded Nike + GPS from iTunes I first had to set my preferences, height, weight, gender, etc. Then I necessary to decide my feedback options, do I want a male or female voice to tell me time, distance and pace and to cheer me on. If you don't want any feedback you then just switch it to off. After watching the short tour they offered, I was prepared to start my run. The next step ended up being to select which run type I was taking place. They offer, basic, serious amounts of distance. Once you choose your type you are ready to own.
A breakdown from the run type options follows:
After you happen to be finished you might be given your "summary" of one's run. In this section you are given the miles you ran, distance, some time to calories you burned. Then you can elect to play tag with your friends, share your run using Facebook or Twitter, set new goals on Nikeplus.com, have a look at your route information on the map feature or input how your run was and add notes.
The the next time you open your Nike + GPS app you can decide to start a new run, outrun your pals, or challenge me. I tried the challenge me option where I could handle my last run by going longer. They give you additional options as well, like challenging you to go farther or faster. I found this to be very rewarding as it pushed me even harder inside my workout.
This is my personal favorite feature of the app. There are two options you can choose to look at within the route info section. The first is your distance. I took a shorter run around my neighborhood when I first got this app, in order to see how the GPS and map worked and I was thoroughly impressed. It shows in places you started and that you finished with a checkered flag. The second options your pace. It will pinpoint in places you ran the easiest and slowest on the map. For my neighborhood test jog it showed my pace at its slowest when I stopped running when I got a chance to my house.
A fun feature Nike added was the option to "outrun your mates". You invite your mates from Facebook, Twitter or Nike+ and challenge these to a game of tag. It's a adult version of the beloved game we all played as kids. How does it work? It's really simple -- you can either invite or tag as much friends as you choose you then set the action based on your preferences. When I played it I chose whoever had the shortest time was "it". You can also choose other versions like, the one who runs the shortest distance or the one who runs last is "it". The game can last three days and after that expire. It's a fun way of getting exercise this will let you little competition among friends.
Although Nike made a fantastic app that allows you to track your run, there are many shortcomings. If you plan on having a run within the morning and being able to have enough battery life for that rest in the day, sadly that isn't going to happen. I took one hour jog in the morning and my life of the battery was almost half gone after as the app is applying your GPS plus it remains open.
Another downside is that you have to keep the app open in order to get better usage of the GPS. Also, if I obtain a text inside my walk about the treadmill I cannot text back without having to pause the app. I would would rather continue my workout and text simultaneously.
One thing I don't like is you must carry the product around with you when you use this app. They did created an armband for that iPhone 4 so I would recommend buying it to work with with this app.
Overall, I give the Nike + GPS iPhone app 4 stars away from 5. It has a nice interface, the usability is extremely good, you press control button and start running, plus it provides motivation by cheering you on while you run. For the budget cost of $1.99, it's really worth the purchase. I was sufficiently fortunate to get it for free during a promotion, nonetheless it still beats similar running apps that cost up to $9.99. If you like to track your runs on the treadmill, outside and even train to get a marathon, than the app is good for you.
